Dr. Kim Furry is a native of Durango, Colorado and has donated the beautiful photographs on our home page. Below is some biographical information about Kim and her love of the Colorado outdoors.
“I was born and raised in Durango Colorado.  Fortunately, I was able to
come back to Durango in 2000 to start my career as an orthopedic surgeon.
I have loved the outdoors, camping, skiing, horseback riding, etc. since I
was a child.  I became interested in photography while I was in high
school, but never had any formal training. I also never really had the
time to pursue it as a hobby.  Once I came back to Durango, I began to
take the time to develop my photography.  One way for me to wander from
the stress of my day job is to get outside and enjoy the world around me.
I love the landscape and opportunities that the South West has to offer
for any number of outdoor activities.  This gave me the perfect chance to
pull out my camera and start exploring the world around me in a slightly
different way.  First, I want to say that I have never taken the beauty of
Southwest Colorado for granted.  But, rather that just walking through it
and admiring the beauty, I really started to look and see things that I
wanted to share with others.  Photography makes me slow down and look for
the subtle things around me that we often miss as we rush through our
daily lives.  I will sit for hours at times waiting for the light to get,
hopefully, to the point that I envisioned for a particular scene.  It is a
creative outlet that I enjoy and hopefully continue to develop.  My desire
with my photography is to share some of these moments with others and
expand their interest in the world around us.”
